H2V Magallanes and H2 Chile visit HIF's Haru Oni Plant in Cabo Negro, Punta Arenas

3/4/24

This Wednesday, April 3, H2V Magallanes management visited with H2 Chile the Haru Oni Plant of HIF Chile, accompanying the Executive Director of the Chilean Hydrogen Association, Marcos Kulka, as part of his visit to the city of Punta Arenas.

The General Manager of H2V Magallanes, María Isabel Muñoz, highlighted the collaborative work deployed with H2 Chile, to jointly promote the development of the future hydrogen industry and its derivatives in the country: "We appreciate the initiative of H2 Chile to visit our region, an opportunity that allows us to share and update the different levels of progress to date, also assessing the challenges and scenarios, so the coordinated work is necessary and always relevant.

The tour was led by Juan Eduardo Gallardo Fuenzalida, Manager of HIF Chile Magallanes, and Marcelo Daller, Operations and Maintenance Manager of HIF Chile Magallanes. As part of the visiting group were Ricardo Rodríguez, H2 Chile's Research Leader, and Loreto Velázquez, H2 Chile's Communications Director, with whom we learned in detail the complexity and precision of the different processes associated with the plant's production chain.

Haru Oni utilizes renewable energy, harnessing the wind intensity of the area, using a process called electrolysis for molecular dissociation between water and oxygen, thus producing green hydrogen. The project captures CO₂ from a biogenic source and uses a synthesis process to combine CO₂ and hydrogen producing e-Fuels, including carbon neutral gasoline (e-Gasoline) and carbon neutral liquefied gas (e-GL).

H2V Magallanes works to promote the regional and global energy transition from Magallanes, promoting the development of a new industrial hub that will allow the country to become an energy exporter to the world. It is currently made up of six projects that are in different stages of development (mainland and island): EDF Chile, EDF Renewables, HIF Chile, HNH Energy, TEG Chile and TotalEnergies H2.

H2 Chile seeks to position Chile as one of the leading countries in the production and export of green hydrogen. Currently its members come from the private, public and academic sectors with 40 professional partners and more than 100 leading companies with the capacity to cover the entire green hydrogen value chain with goods and services.
