H2V Magallanes AG signed a public-private cooperation protocol with the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, heads of three Ministries, the Regional Government of Magallanes and Corfo, which seeks to promote the Green Hydrogen industry and its derivatives in the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica.
The agreement focuses on five areas of work: human capacities, productive linkages, technological innovation, common infrastructure and harmonious development of the region. It was signed by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow; the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Nicolás Grau; the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López; the Regional Governor (s) Jorge Altamirano; the Executive Vice-President of Corfo, José Miguel Benavente, and the General Manager of H2V Magallanes, María Isabel Muñoz.
President Gabriel Boric highlighted that this agreement is the result of the public-private dialogue that has allowed advancing in a government strategy aimed at facing problems such as the climate crisis. He said that Chile is committed to have an energy matrix that allows decarbonization by 2050, and that the Green Hydrogen industry "can be developed with an international vision, from here, with production chains and technology transfer, providing employment and development to the Magallanes Region. From Magallanes we are speaking to the world and we are proud of what is being done".
"As an Association we celebrate the signing of this protocol with the Government of Chile, an unprecedented agreement that will allow us to move forward in a joint and coordinated manner to enable the necessary conditions for the sustainable development of the emerging green hydrogen industry and its derivatives," said Maria Isabel Muñoz.
The executive added that "the projects currently under development will bring innovation, human capital development, employment and an important economic boost, which will add value to the communities in which they are inserted, and in turn position our country as a leader in the fight against climate change".
The Minister of Economy, Nicolás Grau, valued the signing of the document, which establishes the work to be done to strengthen an industry that will bring development to the region and the country. He stated that "what we are doing in this agreement is to prepare ourselves in time for all this. To make sure that, for example, the companies can study in time how it is going, what type of competencies and what type of workers will be needed in the future. And when we have this information with all the details of the engineering projects of the companies, we will then be able to make plans with the universities, with the technical training centers, with the professional centers, so that we can make the most of this industry at a local level. And that will be good for the companies, because it will allow them not to have to bring so many people from outside, eventually, and, of course, it will be very good for this region, because it will mean better salaries".
For Diego Pardow, Minister of Energy, "this agreement is very important for Chile and especially for Magallanes. In addition, this is part of the Green Hydrogen Action Plan that we are developing as a government and that will go to public consultation in the coming weeks. In this Plan you will be able to see the detail of all the concrete measures that have to occur in the coming years between 2023 and 2030, many of which are indeed great news for the Magallanes Region".
Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, emphasized that "when a country decides to develop an industry as our country is doing today, it is necessary to approach it with the participation of everyone. With the State, the private sector, with the communities, with state companies and local governments to put on the table everything that is required for an appropriate and successful development. As a Ministry, it is up to us to study, generate and build the necessary infrastructure to enable these economic and social activities".
